Comparison Between Apple’s New iPad And Asus Transformer Prime
Amid high expectations, Apple released their latest tablet- the new iPad on 8th March, 2012. With many rumors doing rounds, the iPad failed to meet the many expectations as the new iPad just managed to upgrade the specifications of the already successful iPad 2 and could not offer anything new like Apple is known to.
Despite that, the new iPad did tempt us with a great looking screen and a fast processor; however is it really worth your money or should you go for some other tablet is a question is some people’s mind. Let us compare the new iPad with Asus Transformer Prime to know which one would suit you.
Apple’s New iPad Vs Asus Transformer Prime
Body And Looks
The new iPad and Asus Transformer Prime have a different shape as the iPad has a 4:3 screen aspect ratio while the Transformer Prime has 16:9 aspect ratio. The iPad has a dimension of 241.2 x 185.7 x 9.4 mm as compared to Asus Transformer Prime which has a dimension of 263 x 180.8 x 8.3 mm. The iPad is slightly heavier than the Asus iPad with 662g as against 586g of the transformer prime. It is mainly because it houses a bigger 42 Wh battery.
Display Screen
The Apple iPad has one of the best displays among tablets (and also other devices as claimed by Apple) and clearly beats any other tablet in terms of screen display. It comes with a 9.6î LED backlit IPS screen and has a resolution of 2047 x 1528 pixles which is higher than even a HD television. The iPad comes with a scratch resistant screen with oleophobic coating which avoids finger prints to stick on the screen. The Asus Transformer Prime on the other hand has a slightly larger 10.1î LCD screen with Super IPS technology. It packs in a decent resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels which however does not stand ground against the iPad. It comes with a scratch resistant Gorilla Glass.
Camera
The new iPad has the same camera which is used in the iPhone 4S with a resolution of 5MP. It can shoot HD videos at 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second. The secondary camera however has a paltry VGA resolution. The Transformer Prime on the other hand has an 8 MP camera and can also record HD videos at 1080 pixels in 30 frames per second. It comes with a 1.2 Megapixel secondary camera which is better compared to the iPad.
Memory And Other Features
The Apple iPad is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64 GB inbuilt memory variants. It however lacks an external memory card slot. The Transformer Prime on the other hand comes with 16 GB and 32 GB inbuilt memory variants and supports SD card upto 32 GB through the external memory card slot.
Despite having a faster processor and high resolution screen, the iPad can be continuously used for 10 straight hours thanks to the large 42 Wh battery. The Asus Transformer Prime on the other hand has a 25Wh battery but can be used continuously for 12 hours due to the lower resolution and hence lower power need.
