Email Virus Infection
It is safe to say that no one has ever infected their computer with a virus by opening mail delivered by the postal service, but since more and more people use the internet for email, the potential for viruses to get into their computer is real.
Even legitimate companies are not immune to having their names and likenesses attached to email containing Trojan horses to unleash havoc on the recipient’s system unless they take the appropriate precautions.
What is Federal Express Email Virus Infection
Federal Express has been one of the most recent companies used by online scammers and those wishing to cause damage to your computer. Recently, emails have been sent out under the disguise of FedEx that contained the subject such as FedEx tracking or an item number along with an attachment with a name such as “FEDEXInvoice”.
What Will Happen When User Received This Federal Express Virus Email
1) When users received this email, without considering they shouldn’t have any business with Federal Express, or at least should not be receiving an invoice, they may, out or curiosity open the email and download the attachment. If you do receive such an email you should not open it and delete it immediately.
2) Opening the attachment will likely place a Trojan horse on your computer that contains malicious executable software that will download other programs intended to do harm to your system.
3) At the very least it brings in spyware and adware that can slow your system down. Others may download a program that allows others access to your computer and in some instances was able to send the same message to all of the contacts in your address book.
4) Numerous attempts to gain control or even damage your computer have been sent out under the name of FedEx, none of which are valid, but are intended to either cause harm or to obtain information from the recipients.
5) Phishing emails use legitimate sites in an attempt to obtain personal information. The email may read something to the effect that your account is in jeopardy and you need to sign in to correct your information.
6) The ability to sign into the site may give you a false sense of security, but in reality you have just provided the scammer the information they need to access your account. From there, they can get into your account information and go through the update section to gain all of the information they need to steal your identity.
7) One of the more popular attempts to get onto your computer is an email from FedEx that advises you to be alert for fraudulent emails regarding a package that couldn’t be delivered as addressed.
They often advise you that an attachment should be printed out and taken to your local facility to collect the package. Failure to open this email and its attachment will only prevent you from being the victim of an online scam or recipient of a virus.
FedEx urges anyone who has received any such email to delete them and then follow up with your antivirus software to ensure nothing was left behind on your computer. In almost all cases, the email is a scam and an attempt to infect your system with a new virus.
