LG Optimus 3D and HTC EVO 3D offer a 3D experience for your phone on the go. So along with their other features how do the two devices compare against each other in the 3D field?
If you want a 3D phone, should you collect an Optimus contract, or one of the HTC Evo 3D deals? We look at the two phone’s 3D prowess and compare their screens, cameras and abilities in the field.
LG Optimus And HTC EVO 3D Similarities
Both the devices have 4.3 inch screens that offer a 480×800 (WVGA) resolution. And obviously the two phones have screens that offer 3D abilities without the need for glasses through some high brow tech wizardry and a thing called a ‘parallax barrier’.
LG Optimus 3D
The Optimus 3D’s screen is quite good and offers a good sweet spot – a long way improved on the Nintendo 3DS’s screen which you had to sit very still to experience properly. The screen is bright and the 3D offers an excellent amount of depth. The LG designated area for 3D shows some images and footage that definitely has the capacity to wow people and we must say the screen did impress us. It is also possible to watch images in 2D through the flick of a switch on the top of the device.
The Optimus’ camera is a 5mp with two lenses. This creates the two images which layer on top of each other and provides the 3D images we are all so familiar with. The phone can record moving footage and also 3D stills at 3mp. We must say both look great and offer a definite improvement on normal photos and imagery. The phone translates both of these mediums well to the 4.3 inch display.
HTC EVO 3D
The HTC Evo offers a similar experience, we did find it to be a little less satisfying than the Optimus – perhaps as we were expecting more from HTC than LG. The HTC also has dual 5mp cameras and is capable of recording in both 3D and takes stills in three dimensions also.Just like the LG phone the EVO 3D can only take snaps in a lesser resolution in 3D than in 2D. This strikes us as odd considering there are two 5mp cameras – all the same it does look quite cool. We did find playback on the HTC screen to lack a little and it just didn’t seem as bright or offer the same depth that the LG did. This meant as a 3D phone we did find the LG Optimus to be superior. Both phones came with HDMI cables so you can transfer images to 3D enabled TV which is cool.
Conclusion
Overall though, the LG is the better 3D phone, though both are very cool novelties and the EVO 3D is perhaps a little better when 3D is not taken into consideration.
